Lichgates follows the stories of Kara and Braeden and the strange happenings that occur. Kara is a human that has stumbled into Ourea through a Lichgate in her realm. She comes across a mystical book called the Grimoire, it seems to interact with what she is doing and not a lot makes sense. Braeden has been on the run from his father for 12 years, he believes if he becomes the new vagabond by becoming the Grimoire’s master, then he will be free from the call of the blood of his race. They stumble into each other through bad circumstances however, realise that the other may be able to help them achieve what they need.
I really enjoyed reading the book and loved the way in which the characters were able to develop throughout the novel. Kara starts off as being a typical human amongst different races and being quite weak compared to what is the norm. Braeden also grows throughout the book, but in more of an emotional state rather than physical. (Though he does change physically a couple of times, you’d understand if you read it!) I liked how the interaction between the characters increase and deepen throughout the course of events. The whole quest that takes place is very captivating and enjoyable to read and experience with the characters, the world building that Boyce has been able to achieve is magnificent and the amount of attention to small details makes you feel like you are there with the characters and makes you want to know more about what is happening.
This book is highly enjoyable for those that enjoy high fantasy tales, i would definitely recommend this book 🙂
