2014 Challenges

Because i only started this blog in late August i didn’t really see the point in joining any 2013 reading challenges as the year was already over half way over (plus it took me a while to even find out about them!). However this coming year, i want to get more involved and have a few challenges that i really want to participate in!

I have so many books on my TBR pile that i definitely need something to keep me motivated to read them and not just read the new books that i will buy! Bookish’s rules state that the book must have been released in 2013 or earlier and that you are allowed to move up levels in the challenge, however not down. Due to this i’m going to start off easy and aim for:

11-20 books – A Friendly Hug

for the year. I have at least this many books i need to read and will hopefully go higher! Below is a list of possible reads for this challenge!

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

Delirium by Lauren Oliver

Switched by Amanda Hocking

Anathema by K.A. Tucker

Forever Fae by L.P. Dover

Unenchanted by Chanda Hahn

Matched by Ally Condie

The Raven Boys by Maggie Steifvater

Teardrop by Lauren Kate

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

Allegiant by Veronica Roth

Dishonour by Jacqui Rose

Wool by Hugh Howey

and a few more that i can’t currently remember.

You may have realised i have a bit of a thing for fairy tale retellings, so to find this challenge makes me very very happy and excited. Though i’m going to double check if Alice in Wonderland retellings will count for this challenge, as i don’t think its really a fairy tale. There are 6 different levels to aim for, these are:

Poor Cobbler: 1-3 books

Devilish Wolf: 4-6 books

Lady in Waiting: 7-9 books

Mountain Troll: 10-12 books

Evil Enchantress: 13-15 books

Monstrous Dragon: 16+ books

There are so many books i want to read in this genre that the list is going to be quite hefty. I’m going to initially aim for:

Mountain Troll: 10-12 books

Which is equivalent to roughly one a month, however do think that i will go higher than this (hopefully).

A couple of the books i’m interested in reading for the challenge are listed below!

Unhinged by A G Howard – there is no way i’m not reading this book, i’ve got my pre-order in nice and early 🙂

Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Of Beast and Beauty by Stacey Jay

Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge

Towering by Alex Flinn

The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Bedor

Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson

A Long, Long Sleep by Anna Sheehan

Enchanted by Alethea Kontis

Sisters Red by Jackson Pearce

Briar Rose by Jana Oliver

Ash by Malinda Lo

Series-Challenge-Button-take2

So i also have a lot of series that i have started but not had time to finish and definitely want to work at improving this over the next coming year! I’m going to aim for the Plantinum Badge which requires you to complete 12 or more series over the next year. This again, means that i would only have to complete 1 series a month so i’m definitely hoping that i’m up to the challenge, some series’ that i want to finish are listed below:

The Selection Series by Kiera Cass (The One)

Wither by Lauren DeStefano (Fever and Sever)

Legend by Marie Lu (Prodigy and Champion)

Divergent by Veronica Roth (Allegiant)

Wicked Lovely by Marrisa Marr (Fragile Eternity, Radiant Shadows, Darkest Mercy)

A Kiss of Shadows by Laurell K Hamilton (A Shiver of Light)

Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill (Biting Cold, House Rules, Biting Bad, Wild Things)

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi (Shatter Me, Unravel Me and Ignite Me)

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor (Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Days of Blood and Starlight and Dreams of Gods and Monsters)

and a few more…

I also like the look of Ula’s Dystopia Challenge, i love the dystopian genre so it would be silly to not participate really. There is an overall goal to read 24 books (2 a month), however there are also levels that you will reach at different stages, these are:

Level 1Recruit (1 to 6 books)
Level 2Rebel (7 to 12 books)
Level 3Revolutionist (13 to 18 books)
Level 4Leader (19+ books)
So because the aim of the challenge is to read 24 i will aim for Leader, especially because i don’t think i’ll have too much trouble finding some Dystopian’s to read! Quite a few books mentioned in the other challenges will even fall into this category.
Some possible ideas may be:
The One by Kiera Cass
Prodigy and Champion by Marie Lu
Shatter Me, Unravel Me and Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi
Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Days of Blood and Starlight and Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor
Fever and Sever by Lauren DeStefano
World After by Susan Ee
Allegiant by Veronica Roth
Matched by Allie Condie
Delirium by Lauren Oliver
and a few more…

  1. Thanks for joining the Fairy Tales Retold Challenge! It’s going to be a blast! And yes, Wonderland retellings totally count, even though it “technically” isn’t a fairy tale. Ultimately you decide what to read!

    1. I’m really enjoying the challenge so far though have fallen a bit behind schedule… hope it’s going well for you and Sorry for the late reply!
