Waiting on Wednesday (46)

waiting on wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine talking about upcoming book released we are excited for.

My choice this week is:

Becoming Jinn

Becoming Jinn by Lori Goldstein

Release Date: 21st April 2015

From Goodreads:

“Forget everything you thought you knew about genies!

Azra has just turned sixteen, and overnight her body lengthens, her olive skin deepens, and her eyes glisten gold thanks to the brand-new silver bangle that locks around her wrist. As she always knew it would, her Jinn ancestry brings not just magical powers but the reality of a life of servitude, as her wish granting is controlled by a remote ruling class of Jinn known as the Afrit.

To the humans she lives among, she’s just the girl working at the snack bar at the beach, navigating the fryer and her first crush. But behind closed doors, she’s learning how to harness her powers and fulfill the obligations of her destiny.

Mentored by her mother and her Zar “sisters”, Azra discovers she may not be quite like the rest of her circle of female Jinn . . . and that her powers could endanger them all. As Azra uncovers the darker world of becoming Jinn, she realizes when genies and wishes are involved, there’s always a trick.”

I can’t remember when i last read a good Genie book, i haven’t read that many as that market isn’t yet saturated with them, however i have a feeling that after this book that may change! I’m definitely interested to see how Azra develops and more about how the Jinn operate in this world.

What are your picks for this week?

    1. Thanks 🙂 and no problem about sharing it. I’m glad to show books that other people haven’t really heard about before. Hopefully we’ll enjoy the new genre.

  1. Yes! This one looks super good. Plus how many good genie stories out there are there? Like you said, the market isn’t saturated with them. Here is to hoping it is a good book.

    1. I’m hoping to avoid reviews before reading so as not to spoil anything for myself! Here’s to hoping we both enjoy it 🙂
