Top Ten Tuesday (30)

top ten tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a Weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where each week a topic is given and we have to reply with ten answers.

This Week’s Question: Top Ten Books Whose Cover Made Me Buy Them!

So this week was a freebie week and i decided to play off of a bad habit of mine which is buying and judging books based on their covers, therefore these are my favourite covers for books that i bought solely based on the look of the cover.

10. City of Fae by Pippa DaCosta

City of Fae

Yes, i’m not going to lie, the word fae in the title also caught my attention. However i found this cover completely gorgeous and could not wait to read it, the book was definitely interesting, however didn’t quite live up to the expectation i had based on the cover.

9. The Gathering Dark by Leigh Bardugo

The Gathering Dark

So for those of you that don’t know, this book is also known as Shadow and Bone. I had both on my wish list for a long time, Shadow and Bone because i liked the sound of the story and this because i really liked the cover. I took me receiving this book to put the two together and realise that they were actually the same. I would highly recommend reading this book (in either format) if you haven’t already.

8. Wither by Lauren DeStefano

wither

Ok this cover drew me to this book completely. Yes, when i read the synopsis i knew it had to be mine, however without the cover i may never have picked it up.

7. The Queen of The Tearling by Erika Johansen

The Queen of the Tearling

There was something about the simplicity of this cover and the fact that it was a bear trap sitting on a red pillow that drew me to this book. I have yet to read the second but incredibly enjoyed the first book in this series.

6. Crown of Ice by Vicki L. Weavil

Crown of Ice

There was something about the frostiness of this cover that really appealed to me and encouraged me to get this book. I really like the death stare that the main character is giving and the way that she has become a literal “ice princess”. It made me really hope that this was the main character and made me want to know more about here and how she came to be like this.

5. Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

daughter of smoke and bone

I absolutely love this edition of Daughter of Smoke and Bone, i love the look of the feather mask and just really really love the cover. Granted when i bought the book i ended up getting a different edition (It was £2 for the hardback, i couldn’t say no), but this cover is what drew me to the book and series in the first place and i’m not sure if i would have picked it up without it.

4. The Princess in the Opal Mask by Jenny Lundquist

princess

I still don’t really know what this book is about, there was something about the elegance of the picture and writing that made me really excited to read this book and find out more about this princess and the mask.

3. Stolen Songbird by Danielle L. Jensen

Stolen Songbird

I love this book, i have Hidden Huntress and have yet to come round to reading it but i absolutely loved Stolen Songbird. However the reason i wanted to find out more and the reason i eventually bought it was because of the gorgeous cover. There is something about how the different green’s meld together that appeals to me and i really wanted to learn more about that glass rose.

2. Crewel by Gennifer Albin

Crewel

I really liked the splitting up of the cover with the hourglass shape and the image that this created. Another book that i really enjoyed, it has a unique story, however it was the cover that drew me to it.

  1. Something Strange and Deadly by Susan Dennard

Something Strange and Deadly

Another book that i don’t really know that much about, i really like the girl standing there in the black dress and the dying tree in the background. It made me interested to learn more about the story and about this girl.

I’ve left lots of great covers out, please let me know some books you picked up due to their covers!

  1. I absolutely cannot blame you for buying these books based on their covers–they’re GORGEOUS! I feel like The Queen of the Tearling is calling to me, and I don’t even know what it’s about yet lol. And I’m pretty sure 95% of the reason I wanna read Smoke and Bone is so I can have the amazing covers. Great list!

    1. Haha thanks, that was also my problem 🙂 Queen of Tearling was a great book, so i’d definitely recommend checking it out. Thanks for stopping by and commenting 🙂

  2. Great topic!! All of these covers are gorgeous – I understand why you bought them haha. Oh wow, Shadow and Bone was called Gathering Darkness?! I wonder why they changed the name/cover! Something Strange and Deadly has a stunning cover – I’ve been meaning to read it for a while now!

    Happy reading!

    1. Haha thanks 🙂 And i guess so, not sure if thats what it was called originally or if was just a different edition. I have no idea why they changed it but found it interesting! I completely agree, thanks for stopping by and commenting 🙂
